Clothing Alterations & Repairs in Huntsville, TX
Hemming, zippers, and tailoring that make every garment fit right — done in our own shop on I-45, by people who've been doing it for decades.
A jacket that fits is worth more than an expensive one that doesn't. Bring in what you already own — the suit that's a size too big, the pants that drag on the floor, the dress with a broken zipper — and we'll make it fit and last.
Common Requests
How a Fitting Works
Bring It In
Come during store hours with the garment and the shoes you plan to wear with it — hem length depends entirely on the shoe.
Try It On
We pin the garment while you're wearing it. This is the part that can't be skipped — measurements off a tag aren't how clothes actually sit on a body.
We Quote It
You'll get the price and the ready date before you leave anything with us. No surprises at pick-up.
Pick Up & Check
Try it on again when you collect it. If something isn't sitting right, tell us — we'd rather fix it than have you live with it.
Why Fit Matters More Than Price Tag
Off-the-rack clothing is cut for an average that almost nobody actually is. A jacket is sized to your chest, so the sleeves land wherever they land. Pants are sized to your waist, so the inseam is a guess. That's not a defect — it's how mass production works, and it's exactly the gap alterations close.
The practical version: a $200 suit that's been tailored will look better than an $800 suit off the rack. Hemmed sleeves that show a quarter inch of shirt cuff, a jacket taken in at the sides, trousers that break once cleanly over the shoe — those three changes do more for how you look than the label ever will.
Alterations on Clothes You Already Own
Most of what comes across our counter isn't new. It's the suit that fit three years ago, the dress bought for a wedding that's now a different season, the work pants that are perfect except for the length. Altering what's in your closet is almost always cheaper than replacing it, and you already know you like it.
Repairs Worth Making
A broken zipper, a torn seam, a missing button, a worn coat lining — these end a garment's life long before the fabric wears out. All of them are fixable, usually quickly, and usually for a fraction of replacement cost. If you're already bringing items in for dry cleaning, mention the repair at drop-off and we can handle both in one trip.

Good to Know Before Your Fitting
A few things that make the difference between a good alteration and a great one:
- Bring the shoes. Pant and skirt length is measured against the shoe you'll actually wear. Heels versus flats can be a two-inch difference.
- Wear the right undergarments. For dresses and formalwear especially, what you wear underneath changes how the garment sits and where it needs to be pinned.
- Letting out has limits. We can only let a garment out as far as the seam allowance the manufacturer left inside it. Taking in is almost always possible; going up a size often isn't.
- Shoulders are the one to check before you buy. A jacket's shoulder seam is the hardest and most expensive part to change. If the shoulders fit, almost everything else can be adjusted.
- Don't wait until the week of the event. Formalwear and gowns need time, and a fitting sometimes reveals a second adjustment. Bring those in well ahead.
- Old hem lines may show. Lengthening a garment that's been hemmed before can leave a faint crease or a fade line where the original fold sat — especially on dark denim. We'll point it out before we start.
- Clean garments alter better. Fabric can shift slightly after cleaning, so if an item needs both, it's best to clean it first and then fit it.
Alterations FAQs
Do I need an appointment for alterations?
No. Walk in during store hours and we'll do the fitting at the counter. Bring the garment and the shoes you'll wear with it.
How much do alterations cost?
It depends on the garment and what's being changed — hemming a pair of pants and taking in a lined suit jacket are very different jobs. You'll get a firm price at the fitting, before you leave anything with us. Call (936) 291-1370 if you want a ballpark first.
Can you make something bigger?
Sometimes, within the seam allowance the manufacturer left inside the garment. Some pieces have a generous allowance and can go up a size; others have almost none. We'll check the inside seams at the fitting and tell you what's possible.
Can you hem jeans and keep the original hem?
Yes. If you want to keep that worn, faded look at the bottom of the leg, ask for an original hem — we remove the length from above and reattach the factory edge.
Can you fix a broken zipper?
Yes, on pants, dresses, jackets, and coats. Bring it in and we'll tell you whether the slider can be repaired or the whole zipper needs replacing.
Do you alter wedding dresses?
Yes — bring it in well ahead of the date, since gowns typically need more than one fitting. We also clean and preserve gowns after the wedding; see our wedding gown cleaning page.
